vivian fiveA Story by beautiful dreamer I
heard the roar of a motorcycle and I turned quickly, seeing Lane ride up on a
crotch rocket. I held Heidi down as she started to spook and Lane turned off
the cycle. “where’s your horse?” I asked tilting my head. “we’re using a
different mode of transportation today baby.” He says and takes Heidi’s rein.
“hey they big girl. we won’t be needing you today.” He says to the horse and
disappears into the barn. I hurry after him. “you don’t really expect me to
ride on that do you?” I ask in half disbelief. He smiles back at me. “it’s time
to get over your fears Vivian.” He says simply and deposits the horse in her
stall. You
just have to hold on he said as he kick started the motorcycle. My stomach
leaped. “nothing over forty.” I said over the engine. “hold on tight.” He tells
me and I wrap my arms around his waist seconds before he takes off. As soon as
we turn onto the road a new wave of adrenaline washes over me. “scratch what I
said!” I shouted in his ear. “Gun it!” he smiled back at me and sped up. I
whooped and we were on our way. We
pulled over on a ditch around three miles away from the farm. “why are we
stopping?” I asked, running my fingers through my windblown hair. “first stop
on the tour of Lane’s Lexington.” He said, getting off the bike then helping me
off. “you don’t like snakes right.” He asked. I nodded and suddenly I was on
his shoulders. “whoa why am I up here?” I asked as he starts walking. “it’s a
field Viv, there’ll be snakes. I don’t want you to freak.” He said. I laughed.
“I wouldn’t freak but I don’t mind a free ride.” I reply and relax on top of
his shoulders. “Here
we are.” He says setting me down. We were in front of a circle of pine trees. I
look at them a minute. “there pretty trees but not really worth the…” he took
my hand and pulled me through the trees. Inside there was a little grove with a
small waterhole in the middle, surrounded by water flowers. I gasped. “it was
worth the walk.” I said after a minute. He smiles and watches me as I been over
and pick a flower. He cups my elbow and helps me up off the ground. ”This is
not all that’s here.” He says and tucks the flower behind my ear, then takes my
hand and leads me back through the trees out the other side. There sat an old
ford truck. Red exterior with only a little rust, four flat tires and tore up
black leather interior. “how long has this been here?” I asked running my hand
over the hood. “since grade school. I came here to think a lot. It sure held up
eh?” he asks, opening the door. “there’s even keys in here. The original owner
died a long time ago and his daughter has no use for it, so she just leaves it
out here. She told me I could sit in it anytime, because this is our hunting
field.” He says. I climb in and sit in the middle seat. He climbs in beside me,
turns the key and the 8-track player comes on. “Is that…” I ask recognizing the
song. He nods and puts his arms around me, and we sit and listen to the rest of
the song before he turns the truck back off. “I could stay here all day. But I
have some other stuff to show you.” He says, opening the door and helping me
out of the truck. We headed back to the motorcycle. Next
we pulled up an overgrown driveway. I smiled. He likes the old stuff. We passed
an abandoned farmhouse and barn and rode down a hill. Suddenly we were in an
apple orchard. “where do you find all these places?” I ask laughing as we hop
off the motorcycle. “hungry?” he asks not answering my question. I nod.
“starved.” I answer. He walked over to an
apple tree and tugged at one of the apples. Instead of one he got three falling
down on him. He caught one with his left hand one with his right and one with
his mouth. I laughed. “you look like a Christmas hog!” I exclaim. He threw one
the apples at me. I dodge it an My eyebrows go up. “oh it’s so on.” I say
picking up a apple and throwing it at him. After a full out apple war he puts
his hands up in defense. “I surrender!” he says. I laughed and jumped and
grabbed an apple off a tree. “we should feast on our ammo.” I say about to take
a bite. “wait!” he exclaims and takes my hand dragging me deeper into the
orchard. “am I ever going to get to eat an apple?” I say laughing. He stopped
at the foot of a tree and starts scaling up it. Just when I was convinced he
was spiderman I saw the slab latter on the trunk and follow him, landing on a
circular treehouse deck, he was on the other side, I came around to see a black
wire table set, you know those old ones that are super pretty, covered in a
lace tablecloth. The tabletop was covering in apple foods. “we shall feast
now.” He says bowing and we sit down to our “lunch”. On
the road again. I was holding tight as he rode up to a forest trail and
stopped, then dragged me down it. I laughed the whole way. So hard I didn’t
hear the water running. I looked up at a small waterfall surrounded by a deep
pool. “oh lane this is so beautiful.” I say and he smiles, taking my hand and
leading me across the stepping stones in the water to behind the waterfall.
“this is amazing.” I shout over the roar of the water in my era. “Your
amazing!” he shouts back and kisses me. After a second there was a splash and I
realized we had fallen in the water. I laughed. “you look like a drowned rat!”
I say looking at him. “you look like a raccoon.” He says wiping away the
mascara runs from my cheeks. I laugh and he kisses me again. This had to be the
best date ever. © 2012 beautiful dreamer |
