Orchards

Orchards

A Poem by Joslynn Decker

An orchard is a wondrous place

Filled with leaves of elegance

Filled with agony

Some trees are decoration

Others stand tall with hard labor

Trees are cut down

New ones are planted

Visitors come to cherish their plentiful fruits

While a few leave with a bitter taste upon their tongues

Staying in the front rows

Beautiful bark and fowl apples

The owners ask them to venture in the back

Discover buds of a different kind

Few do

The brave find magic

In only the darkest corners lurks the real treasure

Those few come back

Nurturing the trees

Showing them their worth

Failure and optimism

True lessons of wisdom

Their buds grown again in next seasons

Brighter and more filling each time

Until they are the tree that all others look to for guidance

A mentor
