Flashlight

Flashlight

A Poem by Joslynn Decker

I’ve never been afraid until I met you

Not because you’re a monster,

You don’t collect my screams

Not because you’ll hurt me,

Sticks and stones that may or may not break my bones

Not the fact that you’re wiser

Not because you scare me

But until now I’ve never been more afraid to loose someone

As I have with you

I carry a flashlight

If I were without you

My stars would fade, my world would collapse

My light would burn out

I’ve never been afraid until now

Because you igniting my flame,

Showed me that I had a fear of the dark

I have a fear of being without my flashlight
