Not A Box

Not A Box

A Poem by Joslynn Decker

It's as if I were a box
Not all pretty in a boutique
But on the side of the street
Not a soul stopping to see what lies under my flaps
What good I may contain they'll never know
They chose the safe route
New, that shiny glisten in the sunlight
Perfect corners and edges
I sit between the muck and their feet
Waiting to be restored a new
Wondering back to when all was good
I had a home
But that's not what's seen
In my lowest of lows they beat me
Treat me like Halloween
Filled with tricks ghouls and goblins
I'm worth more
More than a box on the side of the street
Written with harsh language
I'm concealed beauty
And what they don't care to know is that
We
Were once the
Same
