Hurricane You

Hurricane You

A Poem by 1000sleeps
"

A poem comparing a hurricane to the end of a relationship

"

Broken bits lied among the wreckage of the day,

And no words said could comfort those that lost the lives they led,

And the newscasters sighed and shook their heads,

And we were left to wonder how blue skies turned to grey.

You looked at me with tear stained cheeks,

And asked me how such a storm could brew,

Hoping I wouldn’t tell you again what you already knew,

Hoping I wouldn’t explain again what we’ve known for weeks,

For months…

For years?

That storms don’t just appear,

On bright sunny days,

And broken hearts don’t break all at once,

After just a single phrase.

It takes more than just one gust of wind,

To blow a whole house down,

And it takes more than one or two mistakes,

To make her heart’s storm sirens sound.
