To a mind

To a mind

A Poem by Arthur Russell

I feel the thud of my emotions beat
A tempo that betrays my inner feel
The warmth that tells me I am not alone
To fight the weary life that still goes on

To many people it might seem bizarre
That one could be so content with a mind
To disregard the social norms that be
And sail towards a new horizon set

But I am not the conventional mould
To be content with life's banal trifles
It is the truth that I cannot be free
Until I find a deeper kind of joy

She speaks to me on wavelengths yet unknown
To me but yet I hear her all the same
I cannot fathom the depths of my heart
But still it beats and I do dance along
