Gran...

Gran...

A Poem by Natalie Brettell
"

My gran passed away in February. I wrote a poem for her on behalf of myself and the grandchildren. The minister read it for her at the funeral. It's simple, but says everything I could ever want to say.

"

Even now your gone, we know you can still see us.

Even now your gone, we know you can still hear us.

Telling you our thought's, how we'll miss you everyday,

No matter how hard we try, there are no words to say.

How much we appreciate everything you did for us

And how much we love you so.

How we want to take this time, to let you know.

We admired your contentment and gratitude for life.

How we will learn from you and someday we might.

Be as thoughtful, content and as good a person as you.

Gran, you truly are the most wonderful person we ever knew.

This is a beautiful tribute to your Gran, both of my Grans passed away a long time ago. They were good women as I am sure your Gran was, thanks for sharing.

My maternal grandmother is within weeks or days of passing on. She has been everything you mention in this poem and as I read, line by line, I wondered if, separated by an ocean, what we feel and see and hear and know is not part of a greater flow, that we are not as different as our voices or skin or creeds may make us to be. Natalie, this is a wonderful ode to your grandmother, a universal sentiment expressed with authenticity that will touch anyone who has ever been close to a loving grand. Beautiful work.

;~) your words; a fine ode to your grandmother; I hope I am capable of such words when my Grandmaw passes on. I'm lucky at 44, to have her in my life today; she's 89 slowing down a bit but, still enjoying the simple things of life and the company of her family. I try each time I leave her at her home to kiss her before I go and tell her that I love her for I don't want to regret not telling her if she goes before I have the chance to see her again. Yes, emz pegged it; we can all relate to your words and emotions!! Thank you for sharing and bringing "Gran..." to my attention!!! Sallie Bear

This is a very sweet and endearing poem, and I can relate to this because
I am close to my grandma, and when she leaves, I know I will feel the same way.
Thank you for sharing this, and good luck with the rest of your writings...AD
