Soul of Light CH1

Eva Genessi, A young gifted girl who seeks control over her light magic.

Eva woke up, laying in her bed, staring at the ceiling. still remembering that fateful day when she heard the horrible news. It was at Elemental balance class, this class was one of the most boring classes ever according to her, it was like Physics I believe she said? But what seemed like the most dull class of her life, turned out to be lifechanging...

Chapter 1: Remembering.

"Miss Eva, we have something important to notify you of, would you come with us?" said the college councellor.
"We?" said Eva "Are you a bit drunk again councellor? There is only you, I told you to stay off that blue stuff." as she smiled while standing up, flinging her bag over her shoulder.
"This is not a laughing matter Miss Eva, please, make hurry and come with me" said the councellor.

Eva thus followed the councellor to his chamber, optimisticly thinking he just had seen her pulling a prank again on some other students.
After a while they arrived at this huge door, 'High councellor Matthieus Phoenix' said the sign on the door.

"Ah Mr Phoenix, I see you have brought Miss Genessi, please sit, I have important matters to tell you." Said the man in a black suit. "What are you? A cop? I know I pulled a few pranks on students but it can't be that bad right?" Eva gave the man a quick smile before sitting down as she tought of the pranks she had made.
"Miss Genessi I-..." said the man while Eva was giggling. "Miss Genessi he says, just call me Eva Sir, I am not that important or high classed."
"Well then Miss Eva it's like this..." As the man walked to Eva. "I've got news about your grandparents they-."
"What about my grandparents? Is something wrong with them? How do you know them?" Eva stood up, looking at the man. She was looking nervous which wasn't odd, her grandparents were her only caretakers as her parents abandoned her for strange reasons while she was little.
"Please calm down Miss Gene-...I mean Eva, I am sad to inform you this, but your grandparent's house got attacked by this strange force and..." Eva hopelessly looked at Mr Phoenix, she saw him shaking his head, she knew what happened.
"I am sorry for your loss Eva." Said Mr Phoenix while placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Miss Eva, besides your loss, I have something else important to tell you." Said the man who sat down on the desk.
"I-I don't care...They were the only ones I had, what am I supposed to do now? My Grandparents...No, I can't believe this, it can't be true, are you really sure they are gone?" Eva started to sniff, trying not to cry.
"Yes, I am afraid so, but, they had this with them, and I am sure you are interested in this Miss Eva, I have the feeling you are in fact a high born and with a unique gift aswell." The man reached for a chest. "You should take a look Miss Eva."

The man had set the chest on Eva's lap, Eva looked up at the man as she ran her fingers over the lock of the chest. "Thank you for giving this to me, they always cherished this chest, but I don't know why...how do I open this though?"
At that exact moment the chest opened, it reacted on the fingertips of Eva, inside the chest there was a white-silver necklace with carvings on it and a scroll.

Eva took the scroll, as she started reading it her eyes opened more widely. "I...I am..high born?" she stuttered while looking at Mr Phoenix. "Yes my dear, you are, your grandparents didn't want you to know this because of very complex reasons, also, you have this gift, your light magic." Said Mr Phoenix as he looked out the window like the old clichés for the old wise men. "My Light magic? But, it's just ordinary magic, other students have it aswell, why is mine special?" Said Eva.
"You my dear, you have the gift to increase the magnitude of your magic with your mind, how stronger your feelings get, how more intense the magic will be, this is called Amplifying magic. It's quite rare." Mr Phoenix turned to Eva as he laid his hand on her shoulder, Eva looked up at him. "I know this loss is heavy on you, but try not to sadden yourself too much, this will weaken your magic abilities Eva. We will guide you now to control this gift as your grandparents wanted all along."
"Why couldn't I know this earlier Mr Phoenix? I mean, why do I get to hear this now? It doesn't make sense." Eva looked confused at both the man who stayed suspisciously silent and Mr Phoenix still standing near the window.

"Eva...the reason why is because these gifts get registered by the Magic Rubiks Council or as you would know them, the MRC, and because this is a rare ability you will be hunted down, so they can experiment with you. It was the best choice not to tell you for your and for your grandparents' sake." Said Mr Phoenix.
Eva looked at the necklace "So why tell me now? And why did something or someone attack my grandparents? I don't understand any of this..."
"I don't either Eva, I think someone was after this information, and they pinned it down to your grandparents, luckily this chest contained a magic seal which only you could open."
The man in the suit then grinned as he stepped to Eva.

"Thanks for all that useful information old man". The suited man then casted a black bolt which hit Mr Phoenix in the back, he fell down rather quickly, not making a sound.
"No! Mr Phoenix! What have you done!?' Eva darted out of the chair, throwing the suited man down, she quickly closed the chest as the seal reactivated.
The suited man stood up, grinning, his eyes turned dark. "Now I know whom am I supposed to conquer, I shall meet with you again, I can sense this will not turn out well for me Lady Light."
The suited man then shrouded himself in a cloak of shadows, he vanished just like that.

Eva ran to Mr Phoenix, shaking him, but he did not even move a muscle.
"No...Mr Phoenix, first my grandparents, and now you...I can't handle all this, why is this happening, Mr Phoenix please, come back, I need you!" Eva's tears dropped down onto Mr Phoenix's cold body while she held his hand.
Suddenly, his whole body turned to ashes, Eva sat there, watching him crumble to ash, she then thought of her earlier class Historical creatures, where as the Phoenix can be reborn from it's own ash. She started to scavenge trough the desk of Mr Phoenix and found some matches. She lit the matches and lit the ashes which caught the flame very fast, the flame went big, Eva stepped back as the flame got really intense. The flame formed a humanly body. Mr Phoenix was reborn.

"I didn't sense his magic..I am such a fool, I know who that was, I thought I never had to feel this magic again..." said Mr Phoenix as he dusted of his robes.
"Who was it Mr Phoenix? He is the one who killed my grandparents...and he knew you could revive like this so he left." Said Eva.
"He is known as Shadakai the leader of The Dark Council my dear, we have to be careful, he is very powerful, I had luck you were here to light me on fire, else he could've ended me. We should start immediately on your training to control your ability Eva, you need to protect yourself, and we need to take him down, he is a danger to this world, I thought he had lost his power, but appearantly not." Mr Phoenix looked worrying to Eva, she nodded.
"I'll become strong Mr Phoenix I won't let this happen again, and we will take him down together!"


She remembered every bit of that fateful day, but what kept her from sleeping were the words Lady Light, these words kept flowing trough Eva's mind as she looked up at the ceiling, why did those words bother her so much? Yes, she doesn't like to be called a high born, or called Lady/Miss Genessi, it's just not her. It just has to mean something she thought. As she finally turned her gaze elsewhere she looked at the clock, it struck 6:30AM. "Damn! I'm gonna be late for my first Mental Balance class!" Eva darted out of bed and left her room to go to her first class. Now the way to mastering her ability begins here, there still is a long way to go for her.
