January 6, 1936: Received Word

A Chapter by Kristin Brecoe
"

Old rage slowly creeps back up.

"

 Dear Diary,

Today, I receive word from Hector MacQueen that I shall depart next month on the sixth. At first my palms begin to sweat. I don't know if I am capable of making the move weeks too early, but he says this is our only chance. I am going to have to toughen up.

Cassetti wishes to arrive on the Stamboul-Calais train a couple of weeks earlier, and there is nothing Hector can do or say that will change Cassetti's mind.

Over the phone, he dictates the number and various other information I need to secure a spot on the train. I diligently scribble out all the numbers, and tell him I will contact the others. Right after I hang up, I feel a slight shudder run up my spine. I didn't anticipate such an early killing...

The original plan was to wait until the forth anniversary of beautiful Daisy's kidnapping.

Oh, sweet little Daisy Armstrong. I remember the way she would simply giggle, and cure all the pains and fears. Everyone who knew her was immediately cast under her spell. Those brown ringlets and resplendent blue eyes memorized every person that laid eyes on her. She was really something, and she could've been more if Cassetti didn't tear her to pieces like a loaf of bread. I loathe that man. I can't wait until I get my hands on that man, or rather the dagger.

I must calm down. I mustn't get too angry right here, right now. I have to keep the pain, the anger, the need of revenge suppressed for a little while longer. You know what, Diary, now that I think about it, it's good we are getting rid of him earlier. Oh wait. I just remembered something...February 14, 1935. That was the day they court gave the verdict. Hector says we will board the train the morning of the thirteenth, and we will strike early morning of the fourteenth.

Author's Note

Kristin Brecoe
Let me know if it's so sudden. I need it to sound like a diary, convincing, and all. But the flow I don't know if that fully matters or not? What do you think? My diary entries were never too flowed...Sometimes I never finished a thought...

febuary 14th is valentines day. depending on what time period you are in that could be useful to reference. this one gave the reader a bit of a surprise. not too bad on the visuals. i still need a few more. also, when writing a novel in a diary form like this, you must be careful to flesh out the characters. the author of the diary may not need to hear all the gritty details about events and people because they will only need a small reminder, but a person reading the diary doesn't have a clue about who and what these people and places are. you really have to bring the diary to life. does that make sense?
