October is when the crisp fall air is perfect for being outside. A nipping night breeze will bite your face leaving you crowding around the campfire. October is when the leaves turn bright red, orange, and yellow--the colors of fall. The fragile leaves flutter and float down off the trees, caught in the wind. Wherever you walk, you hear the crunching underneath your boots. October is when you pull your hands into your sweater and rub your arms over yourself to keep warm as you walk down the road. You wish you had grabbed a hat before you left to protect your wind blown hair. October is when you pick apples at the orchard. You also buy Caramel and warm, freshly-made donuts. Once in the car, you turn in the heat and begin to slather caramel over your perfect Honeycrisp Apple. October is when you go on hayrides and run through corn mazes. You dog pile as many people as you can into the wagon before you take off. You use each other for warmth as you ride down the street. After you get out, you attempt to pick out all the hay that is woven into your hair. Just before dusk, you grab a flashlight and get lost in the corn maze. October is when pumpkins are plump and ripe. There is pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin doughnuts, pumpkin spices, and pumpkin carving. You can't wait to cut the top off your pumpkin and start pulling all the ooey-goey stringy pumpkin pulp. It takes a while, but you finally finish and chase everyone with yucky orange, pumpkin-guy hands. You spent all day picking the perfect carving and set to work. October is when Halloween comes around. Kids dress up in costumes and go house-to-house saying trick-or-treat. You fill up bags with candy and watch in amusement as Charlie Brown gets rock after rock. Don't forget the haunted hayrides. Everyone hiding beings trees trying to spook you. Best of all, October is when you can enjoy yourself. Whether is is sitting inside with a cup of tea curled up with a book or wit romantic walks through colorful groves or outside jumping in leaf piles, you get to enjoy yourself. October is when people are happy.
