He Walked Down the Empty StreetA Poem by {K}
He walked down the empty street,
Tired of the country life, He wanted to escape all of the Sadness and crumbling strife. Momma was an empty shell, fillin' up with hate, Daddy left a while back, in the hours late. He walked down the empty street, Kickin' up dirt as he did, The red dust as dry as the town, This boy suffered in. He walked down the empty street, passin' a field that stood alone, Sometimes, that boy felt like that field, abandoned, Livin' in his country home. He walked down the empty street, Suitcase in his hand, Wanting to move someplace else, To a better land. He walked down the empty street, which wasn't empty anymore, For with a dust cloud right behind, Down the road came a rusty car. Finally catching up to the boy, Who walked down the empty street, His momma threw herself out of the Torn and faded leather front seat. Tears streamin' down her face, Like they had only once before, Once, and that was when Daddy walked out the door. 'For ignorin' you,' she sobbed, 'I'm sorry,' But the boy didn't know what for, He just wanted to be noticed again, Noticed again by her. No one walked down the empty street, But in the distance is a rustic car, There it goes, back home, For love is never far. © 2011 {K}Reviews
