Deep At Night (A Dark Insight)

A few drinks, too many
A stumbling mess
The voice annoys him
He tears the dress.
This woman he loves
Simply a pest
Fist to the mouth
Her love this will test.

Awakening from sleep
This child is scared,
Screams still torture
Memories impaired.
Braving the stairs
The father in view
Afraid of the dark
More afraid of you.

She looks deep into his eyes
The monster is here
The lover departed
Along comes the fear
“Perhaps we should sleep?”
Connects his right fist
Perhaps she insulted
Is there something she missed?
He tore at her dress
She can’t help but cry
This rock to stand for her
The marriage, the love, A LIE

He looks as she drops
Her head in the hands
Begging to stop
As another fist lands,
Pulling away he glares in detest
Raises his leg
A boot to the chest.

The child watches on
Frozen by fear
Mother still loves him
This much is clear,
Willing to make a stand
Slowly rising to his feet
Then the father gazes
And accepts defeat.

She fell to the floor
One more attempt to beg
Winded and heartbroken
By the connecting leg,
She looks up at her child
The reason she stays
Alone at night she closes her eyes
Every night she prays.

“save me and my child
keep us by your side
One day he will push too much
But my love I cannot hide.
He will be the death of me
I know this all to well
But I promised till death do us part
I’m imprisoned by this man
This home is my cell”

He stares up at his child
His blood, the heir to his name
But hatred is all he reads from his face
And only he is to blame,
This series of events
The beating he inflicted
The hateful look in his sons eyes
Leave him mentally afflicted.

Another night in darkened memories
And still these nights exist
One day just push her far enough
And your razor
Will meet her wrist.

This has such a frighteningly heavy impact. The emotions are so strong in this. It is crazy how you take such difficult subjects and make them into beautifully written pieces.
This poem especially hit me hard because I spent hours talking to an uncle of mine about his abusive parents and how it affected him. It's disturbing to know that people can do this to each other.

thats so sad. whats even more sad is that women are addicted to thier abusive husbands and boyfriends and its hard for them to grasp the effect on thier children. Ive been in a situation where you have to choose between love and a child, and sometimes we make stupid decisions in thinking that we can change that other person and that we can make them stop. it doesnt happen that way and our kids get the blunt of the action

Thanks for sharing this masterpiece on another difficult subject. It's so emotionally raw, you must have bled yourself dry on this one. Let's hope it heals similar pain in some of us reading it? Outstanding work.

That was dark, very dark and touching. Domestic violence at its worst, I've been a victim, I feel for the character and I think some can relate... Nice job though catching the horror, the hurt and what it can lead too...
