Catacomb Of My Mind

Catacomb Of My Mind

A poem about sleepless nights

"
Catacomb Of My Mind
Think of obsession try to run and hide
dark twisted tunnels catacombs of my mind
secrets hidden, never to be told
darkness never to be released soul already sold
waiting for the nightmares as light begins to fade
tortured by taunting memories to which I remain enslaved
how can we release the thoughts?
 the penance has been paid
ive already had to deal with the pain
these catacombs keep them in shade
open up to new experience and try to lighten my mind
walking throughout darkness dreaming
no light I remain blind

Try to forget the past
try to think happy thoughts before I sleep
but the catacombs of my mind are thick
and they are running deep
I waken from my slumber obsessed by my past
surely this can’t continue how long will this last?
Cold sweat is swept from my brow as eyelids heavy drop
already hear the screaming the echo the catacombs won’t stop

victim to twisted tunnels, running wild another sleepless night
at least I have a few more hours to try and store something bright

I understand how you feel in this poem, I've been there
dreams forces you to admit some feelings you've been denying, you've been fooling yourself into thinking you've forgotten and gotten over, the imagery were very beautiful specially at the beginning of the poem
great write Ashley :))

Effectively expresses emotions so many of us feel but struggle to articulate. Dare I say, another Ashley-ism?!

'how can we release the thoughts?' i think you have answered this question a few times before by example... 'with poetry'. I like the image of the twisted tunnels in the catacombs - for all those dark areas of our minds in which keep our stores of nightmares and life experiences (the poet's treasure chest!).

I love this poem. I thought this was beautifully written and I love the metaphor of the catacombs! Fantastic poem.

our dreams confront us, forcing us to face the truths we run from while we wake...good concept,i like the way the mind is compared to a catacomb, a tomb haunted by ghosts of the past...great write, work on the flow a bit though, a little rhythm makes the poem go down...in a most delightful way :)

The past is the hardest part of our lives to overcome. Getting up in the morning after a nightmarish night is the worst. This is normal everyone can feel this way. Some more to the extreme than others. Everyone's past is there own and it is extreme according to each individual.
