Subtle Defeats

Subtle Defeats

A Poem by sivan

Practiced pain

enhancing feeling

in the limbs of the sorrow driven lamb.

Coughing up ash

blackened

by exchanges of hands.

Possession misplaced

through too much

fostering of feeling.

The skies thundering

ponder the question-

When did you stop believing?

Poachers wait

patiently

for the rhino that will soon have no place to hide.

In dreams

in which ancestral magnitude

gets pushed aside

the man without a name

is buckled over kneeling,

earth gave you

ample time for healing.

But,

rewarded for your non-disclosure

I see you shaking hands

with the devil

politely;

And though I understand

I'd have never

given up that lightly.

Beautifully done. I can inhale your words and let them captivate every fiber of my being. This is what great writing looks like for certain. I love the way this flows and the format is divine. I actually wondered as certain lines really provoke curious thought.
