Holding On To Memories Best Forgotten

Holding On To Memories Best Forgotten

A Poem by sivan

Night time falls upon my skin and I

can't even begin

to remember your kiss

through all the others I have tasted

and the time I have wasted

in trying to forget you becomes more

than just a thing I do;

But a thing I need,

because when I breath

I start to remember how it felt the night you stayed

and the way you smelt

of love.

And the way you kissed me

like I was the only one,

like you weren't just having fun.

And the way you looked me in the eyes too

like kissing me

was all you ever wanted to do.

Like my veins

connected to yours

pumped the same blood,

like you and me were one,

like we were meant to be all along,

like yesterday was a thing of the past,

like this love was gonna last,

like you were never gonna say goodbye,

like we were never gonna have to try - to make this work

cause' love, love isn't a smile or a smirk,

Love, love has never been my friend

but I thought this time

you would lend a hand to me and set me free

but love, love is a thing of my past

Love, love can never last

if you can let me walk away

if you have nothing to say

when love, we have come to an unfinished end

and love, we can't be friends

cause' girl I got more than just a thing for you

And goodbye doesn't mean I'll forget you

Cause' love

Love will be the mask I wear

Even if you are no longer there.

I am inclined to slowly consume every well composed line. You have a certain skill that empowers your voice here.

It’s often said that every song, every poem, every novel, every painting ever created is in some way abou love. Your poem follows the story of a love affair, tracing each stage from the initial dopamine-driven lovesickness to the despair of love’s demise through a beautiful blend of intellectual analysis and deeply human felt emotion.

Ah, love. Such feeling is so powerful it can even turn all the beauty in the world into the most ugly portrait we could ever have the dread to behold. And and how does it lodge itself in our minds, hearts and souls so completely, so stubbornly, as to permeate every aspect of the human imagination is impossible to grasp.

I like this piece, it is realistic and raw.
