I suppose I'd describe my most recent writing as contemporary fiction, often based in part on my life, somewhat spontaneous, sometimes ridiculous, and usually a little satirical. Sometimes I throw in an unexpected twist. I usually write short stories.

I guess that's oddly specific, but I'm trying to break out of that mold. I want to write about something that's completely invented and has nothing to do with me...something I have to make up entirely.

I'd like to branch out into fantasy, mystery, historical fiction - everything I haven't tried yet because it's less safe. I've played around with horror a little bit, even if it is over-the-top. Having my writing published isn't one of my goals - I write for fun. :]

I think one of the hardest things about writing is looking at something you wrote a year ago or even only a week ago and finding it so unbearably embarrassing to read over that you just want to get rid of it as soon as possible. I think that's something we all do, but I just try to remind myself that I liked it at the time, I can always change it so I like it again, and it's (hopefully) helping me improve. ;]

Quite honestly, I'm extremely nervous about eventually posting my writing online for people I've never met to see. On the other hand, I already have my writing regularly read aloud in my creative writing class and appreciate the feedback, so I figured I might as well go for it and learn a few things along the way. :]
