Bump in the Night!
On this novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”, written by Harper Lee Arthur Radley is one of the most shadowed protagonist characters in the book. In the first few chapters, we are given the impression that he is a completely reclusive person. He only comes out at night, no one ever see’s him and there are many rumors circulating around Maycomb County about this shady character. In this book which plot follows a young girl of the age of six whose name is Jean Louise Finch growing up and learning that the world is an unfair place, Arthur Radley is one of the most important protagonists in this story.
From what is said in the novel we can inference that Arthur is a very non-social type of person. Harper Lee writes him into the story to give the children and interesting start. The book gives us the impression that he is a very lonely and secluded person. He is like the “Foot Washers”(44) Miss Maudie was talking about in one of the early chapters of the book he does not go out at all except for a few occasions and the times he does it is only at night and no one ever see’s him unless he is looking at you through a window like he did to miss Stephanie(11), and does not socialize.
