About Me
I was born in the UK of Irish parents. My love of music and literature clearly derives from my Irish ancestry.
I have been an English teacher since 1975. I am currently Head of English at the Renaissance International School in Ho Chi Minh City.
After 36 years I still get a buzz from teaching English to teenagers. I am passionate about the English language and about education. I have taught English in Europe, Africa, South America and Asia. This is my 12th year in Vietnam, and I plan to be buried here (but not yet) and return in the form of a durian tree.
Outside of school I am a writer (mainly of travel essays - none of which appear here), chess fanatic (Tanzanian National Champion in 1991), oenophile, devotee of blues and jazz, bibliophile, vulcanophile, intrepid traveller (who has visited 67 countries) and armchair sportsman (football, cricket and boxing being my favourites).
If you wish to read my travel essays, they are all on travelpod.com.
