About Me

I am a visual artist and writer. During 2007-08, I found myself in a time of life transition, where it became almost impossible to maintain the internal equilibrium and sustained focused continuity, necessary to address my time intensive art making activities. Thus, for a season, I turned my attention (full time) to writing. From a few jotted down answers to an 'Art Questionaire' on 'Artists and their Mentors', I soon began to compose a brief 'Artists Statement'. My statement continued to evolve and grow through research, as I purchased every known exhibit catalogue/ biographical material that I could find on my artist mentor... the 1960's NY primitive expressionist painter, PETER DEAN (1934-93). Over the course more than a year, my brief statement morphed through various stages into a complete 56 page manuscript (which includes 100 extended footnotes + over 30 images of art as they relate throughout the text). My manuscript is called: 'ART : Childhood - Mentoring - Calling - Vocation'. The first 14 pages form a historic backdrop and serve as a homage. I then detail an archeological reconstruction of childhood and beautiful way of life, now long since vanished.
In the foreseeable future, I plan to add some separate installments of a theoretical poetic/ aesthetic nature.

Since late 2008, my primary creative energies have shifted back to the creation of works of art, while I continue to maintain my writing through a series of in depth articles on: Art, Music, Ideas, Culture.

["Born April 1957, in the Inwood section of Manhattan, NYC... Robert Eustace attributes his eventual 'calling' in Art (and later in Writing) to various central roots: playtime in the surrounding park system's 'primeval wilderness'; discovering mystery and wonder amongst the art, fragrances and shadows found within the traditional catholic church; and being mentored by the primitive expressionist painter, PETER DEAN (1934-93). His work evokes a mysticism of memory and yearning for the transcendent."]
