About Me
God.. There's alot. And what I can accomodate here is only a fraction of it =P Oh well, here it goes...
I was born in the coastal city of Karachi on 13th July 1987. In 1989, when my sister was a few months old, my family and I moved to Lahore, a wonderful, colourful and historical city of Punjab which lies along the Wagah border.
Life was beautiful my father was a successful businessman, my mother had no worries, my sister and I used to play together and I loved school. The family portrait was complete on 9th September 1992 when God blessed me with a brother.
However, very early in life, I was compelled to confront the inevitability of change when my fathers business was surrendered to a bank as collateral. Financial crisis was not the only dire strait; with my father absconding and being imprisoned for almost a sum of three years, his absence not only led to his separation from my mother, but a feeling of vulnerability in this Chauvinistic society. From the most intelligent student in class, I was labelled a thiefs weird daughter. But one thing was quite reassuring I always excelled in English Literature and essay writing. The death of my maternal grandfather on 8th January 2000 has left me devastated to this day. His little professor did the honours of contributing her very own poem for his obituary (and she still does). Believe it or not, that was my epiphany; that was my moment of being, as Virginia Woolf would call it. From then on, Literature has helped me escape from harsh reality.
After enduring years of immense suffering and physical abuse, my mother filed for divorce and moved with us three children back to Karachi, her hometown. Six interesting years have gone by during which I have managed to gain a mature perspective and learn those little lessons in life which only hardships can teach. Initially, readjustment seemed impossible, but the lesson my beloved grandmother taught me (who has made her home ours) guided me Everything happens by the will of God. He loves His creations - Thus, everything happens for the better. All you need to do is remember Him, be patient and content... And she was right: I have made the greatest friends anyone could ever have. My mother, although single, is independent and earning well, by the grace of God. My family and I have the most precious, unbreakable bond. I plan to enroll at the American University of Sharjah for the Spring semester to study Mass Communication with a major in Journalism.
Even in the absence of my father, Life has become beautiful once again.
Shakespeare, Richard. B. Sheridan, John Keats, William Wordsworth and Katherine Mansfield rule my literary world. Their respective works, 'Julius Caesar', 'The Rivals, 'Ode to a Nightingale', 'Daffodils' and 'The Voyage' are my all time favourites.
P.S. I hope you like my work. Thanks! =]
