When undertaking any writing, it is advisable for someone to have the desired writing guidelines at his or her finger tips. The basic writing guidelines entail an introduction, thesis statement, conclusions, proper development of paragraphs and the appropriate citation style. In academic writing guidelines, it is favorable for the writer not to use some first person point of view like I, us, we, and me among others. The second person point of view like should also be avoided. Phrases like in my opinion, I feel that, I believe that or I think that should not be used. Words like one, being, by, of and it should be used with caution. Informal diction and slang should not be used.
