About Me
I don't really like to write about myself... but I suppose I might say a little about my philosophy of writing.
Writing is a very personal thing for all of us. There are many reasons for writing. Some reasons are pure, to bring about a better world for example, while others are less noble, such as the desire to make more money than J.K. Rowling. For most of us our motivation is probably a mixture of the two. We would like to save the world, but we wouldn't say no to J.K. Rowling's money if you forced us to take it! Whatever our purpose we are all here because writing is something we MUST do. We are writers.
I am a firm believer in the importance of truth in writing. This doesn't mean that all writing should be non-fiction, or even that I have to agree with the characters I'm writing about. It should have emotional truth though. As writers this means we have to open ourselves up to the emotional possibilities of our characters. This comes from our own experience. Just as a method actor will use their life to bring reality to their role, so the author must feel the flesh and bone of their creations to bring them to life. Only when we experience their lives on an emotional level can we really write in complete honesty.
Enough philosophy... back to work.
