Short Challenge - #18

As we mentioned before, we are making this a short one so that we can again catch up with the Wednesday to Wednesday week.

Hope you enjoy this one and have fun!

A Conversation Poem

Step #1: Record a short conversation with another person by writing it down during the conversation or after the conversation has ended; you might also have a friend listen to you having a conversation with someone else, and write it down.

Step #2: When you write out the conversation, skip lines between the snippets of dialogue as you put them down on scratch paper:

"I'm feeling a little tired tonight."
[Skipped line on paper...]
"Hard day at work?"
[Skipped line on paper...]
"I can't stand meetings. They drive me nuts."
[Skipped line on paper...]
"Call in sick next Monday. That's what I suggest."
[Skipped line on paper...]
"If only I could."
[Skipped line on paper...]
"You can."
[Skipped line on paper...]

Step #3: Then, after each line of dialogue in the area where you skipped a line, write a line of description or detail that rhymes with conversation you recorded. You can also (but don't have to) add dialogue tags (like he said or she said) to clear up confusion or improve the poem's rhythm. The end product should be a poem like this...

You say, "I'm feeling a little tired tonight."
I notice you seem wound up tight.
"Hard day," I ask, "at work?"
while thinking God, your boss is such a jerk.
"I can't stand meetings. They drive me nuts."
They bug me too, no ifs, no buts.
"Call in sick next Monday. That's what I suggest."
Your glare implies Surely, you jest,
And you say, "If only I could."
You should, my dear, if only you would.
So I mumble quietly, "You can."
And if you did, I still be your biggest fan.

Step #4: Revise your poem, tweak it and post it here!

The Nurse

I need you to pull your right arm out of your sweater.
My insecurities beg me to circumvent her.

All the way out or can I just push up the sleeve? I nervously ask.
Revealing myself is always a trying task.
The inevitable answer, All the way out please.
Am I supposed to expose my tender flesh with ease?

This is going to be cold. I want to prepare you.
Her countenance seems without guile,
But all I can think is, So what else is new?
Ok, I say with an insipid smile.

What are you seeing the doctor for today?
My gut clenches. Answer small.
I need to discuss my prescriptions.
Ha! I have answered without really saying anything at all.

And what are you currently taking? the nurse questions.

Why do you need to know everything?
Leave me a bit of pride wrapped in discretion.

A Question of Love

"How do you want me to feel about you?" he asked as he shook, as he hoped.
"What do you mean?" was all I could muster as my reply
"Do you want me to love you, 'cause I already do", he said as he smoked
"Yes, I know" I answered and asked for a drag with a gleam in my eye

"Well? Can I love you, can I touch you, can I be with you?" and he passed me a light
"I really just don't know" I breathed and attempted a smile
"If you let me, you'll be the best part of all my days", as he held my hand in the night
"That's what scares me, frankly", and I kissed him for a while.
