Underground Writers Network Forum Challenge of the Week ~ #29
Challenge of the Week ~ #2917 Years AgoAfter surfing around the magical world of words, I noticed several pieces on the commonly denominated "seven deadly sins" and aside from religious implications, this fact spoke to me more about how we are culturally inclined to think about the negative aspect of things. Whether it is about how tedious our job is, or how hedious our neighbor, or how despicable our daily routine has become, we tend to notice these things more than we notice the positive ones.
So let's challenge our minds. Several religions, philosophies and thought currents have developed as well a set of "virtues" Quote:
Four classic Western virtues: Temperance, Prudence, Fortitude, Justice (This enumeration is traced to Greek philosophy, being listed by both Plato and Socrates.) Christian virtues (Seven Virtues) Chastity, Abstinence, Liberality, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, Humility Buddhist virtues (Noble Eightfold Path) Right Viewpoint, Right Values, Right Speech, Right Actions, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, Right Meditation Virtue in Chinese philosophy ren ("humanity"), xiao ("filial piety"), and zhong ("loyalty") Virtue in modern psychology Wisdom and Knowledge, Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance, Transcendence Write a piece that speaks of at least two of these virtues from whichever set you wish to choose, illustrated either in the character of a person or the content of a message. As always let's try to keep it within 1000 words, either verse or prose. Have fun! |
