Challenge of the Week ~ #2517 Years Ago~ Writing with Sounds ~
I am sure you have heard of the importance of sounds when writing. Alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia and internal rhyme, are a few of the fantastic tools we can use to play around with language and give more spice to any piece of writing. Of course, the natural flow and feeling of a piece can feel interrupted and stilted if this device is overused. But, sound effects make an extremely effective opening to a story or give the perfect rhythm to a poem when used intelligently throughout. Alliteration Two or more words which have the same initial sound. Assonance A partial rhyme which has the same internal vowel sounds amongst different words. Onomatopoeia Words that sound like their meaning. For example, buzz, moo, pow. Internal Rhyme A rhyme created by two or more words in the same line of verse. So lets have fun creating a piece that includes some of these elements, to improve the twistings and turnings of our writing. Please do not use old pieces for the challenge, the idea is to be inspired and create something new out of this. You have time to post your pieces until Saturday night. On Sunday, we will begin voting for our favorite pieces. Remember voting is very simple, just post on the thread which one is your favorite or send me a pm about with your choice. Enjoy! ::biggrin:: |

Listening to the whispered fare thee well of laughing spring Smelling essences of newly opened flowers adrift in the wake of Summer's breezy bound to center stage. Visions of hammocks in shade all a swing Fireflies a dance of remembered romance Promises whispered in warmth re awake Murmuring magical memories Of longer lazy loving days |
