Any help is useful...13 Years AgoI love to write, I can't help it. I put the pencil down and moment later its back in my hand. I need to get it all out of my head. Problem is once it's down, I convince myself it will never be good enough for anything.

Re: Any help is useful...13 Years AgoThen why don't you post some of your writing here and see what people think. You may be better than what you think.... :)

Re: Any help is useful...13 Years AgoI agree with the above comment, if you post it I'm sure people can see for themselves how good it is. You may be surprised, we are all our worst critic, lord knows I always find a dozen and a half things wrong with my writing.

Re: Any help is useful...13 Years AgoI had a constant fear that my writing was bad, or not constructed well enough for a very long time before I decided to go independent with it. Sure, I care what other people think, but you'll be amazed what happens when you write for yourself. 'Good enough' is an unrealistic way to measure art.

Re: Any help is useful...13 Years AgoI think it's better to have high standards for our own work than low ones. And of course, we can always keep re-writing to get it 'right'. The trouble is knowing when to stop! When to say: "This is now as good as I can get it."
I would think that your doubts are probably a good sign. If you weren't any good, you probably wouldn't be able to see any flaws in your work because you wouldn't know any better! Studying 'the Craft' can help with confidence, because instead of vague fears of inadequacy, we begin to have an idea what we're looking for when we re-read our work. Or that's what I find, anyway. :) I hope you stick with it, and that your confidence will grow. :) |
