Underground Writers Network Forum Challenge of the Week ~ #21
Challenge of the Week ~ #2117 Years AgoWelcome to our new challenge!
Copy Classics The poet Wendy Cope writes parodies of classic poetry forms. Choose a poem from your book of classics (I assume you have one that you read all the time!) and copy the style in your own words. It can be funny or serious. You can use the original poet's subject matter or your own. Poet Robert Frost said that writing free verse was like playing tennis without a net. Find out how the struggle to get the words over the net can result in discovering ideas you didn't know you had! Of course, you can try writing prose in another writer's style, too. Just keep it within 1,000 words to make sure we can all take the time to stop by and read it. ::cool:: Have fun! ::biggrin:: |

[no subject]17 Years AgoI took the structure from The Blossom by William Blake. I kept the same syllables and tried to keep the same rhyme scheme which is quite awkward in this poem haha. Check it out =)
The Blossom - William Blake Merry, merry sparrow! Under leaves so green A happy blossom Sees you, swift as arrow, Seek your cradle narrow, Near my bosom. Pretty, pretty robin! Under leaves so green A happy blossom Hears you sobbing, sobbing, Pretty, pretty robin, Near my bosom. Mine - The Dying Leaf |

[no subject]17 Years AgoThe classic I chose: "For Those who Fail" by Joaquin Miller.
(Do I have to title this??) For the day that I will try, and how, with wit and grace. Running back words, soaring high, franticly I pace. Sad is the man with pen in hand, each word, they look the same. Disappointing every fan, Some things will never change. To each his own, ascend my throne. A day of by and by. How could I have ever known? If never I had tried. |
