Underground Writers Network : Forum : Quick or wordy? What's your wr..

No getting round it:  polishing will always tell. In that sense, I don’t believe in style. Successive reads will dictate the pace. Too florid here:  get colloquial. Too drawn-out there, terse it up. A sentence, or even a paragraph, can be a single word, if that’s what works. But I’d rather see something continuously tight than continuously long-winded. Lines that just go on and on cause brainlock.

Eh, it's a bit of a combonation of the two. I've written a chaptered story where it's very, very choppy and edgy. I've written a chaptered story where it's lengthy and highly descriptive. The majority of the time, if I'm not trying to use a specific style, it's about average. A happy medium, in my opinion.

I tend to be wordy, you know just throwing descriptions everywhere.  Lately I've been trying to scale it back slightly so my work can still present strong visuals without slowing the pacing down too much.

I definate prefer a more smooth, poetic style to my own writing. Being a songwriter, I find it easier to convey emotion in a more poetic, abstract way than with hard details. I'm a huge fan of songwriters like Springsteen which has served as my inspiration when coming up with a bunch of my shorts.

Basicly i use a deadly combination of both wordy and quick style, Descriptive but fast paced is how i like it....

i think i'm a wordy writer. This is because i believe writing is about creating the world in your head and portraying it in someone else's head. And if you do this right, then the world that your readers create would be exactly like what you invisioned.   At least, thats what i think. :)   Sunflower

Unless I'm in a mood to write something that I usually call a 'quick-shot (a short short story with lots of action, little story, and a lot less of a point of existing)', I prefer very wordy pieces. You could probably blame this on my fascination with H.P. Lovecraft, and the writing of both the 1800's and the 1900's.

I think it depends on what I am writing. Poetry tends to be quick tight wording, where as short fiction or novellas are a bit more flushed out. I do prefer to weed out unnecessary words when reviewing any of my works before posting them or submitting them for publication.

I like to write poetic description, comparing the rays of the dying sun to blood or the shadow cast by a tree to a raven spreading its wings. In short, I love to go into detail in my writing, which often leads to it becoming wordy. I do like to get to the point, though, and meaningless events in a story don't interest me.

I think it all depnds on what i'm writing. Usually it is extremely wordy but with words that are understandable. Other times when I'm writing a short story and it's action packed, I describe the action but I don't linger on it long enough to annoy the reader.

I tend to write short but wordy stories. If I write too long, I get bored and move on to something else. So instead of abondoning stories, they are short but full of long words and sentences. My poetry is both quick and wordy.. I don't seem to have a distinctive poetic style.

I prefer both actually.  Sometimes the wordy takes over and propels me into a endless story and then when I feel everything can be wrapped up in a page or two I write a short story.

to say wordy I sometimes  just write so see what come up and I really take my time in describing what is happening in my stories, I love to explore the mind of the human begging and take the reader somewhere else, like showing the magic in every day events .

It depends on what the story needs. I tend towards verbosity in real life, but my stories are pretty short. I use a lot of description, but really only to set the tone. I don't care whether a character has blue eyes or the street smells like durian if it doesn't make the story better.

Mainly quick for me... although it depends on the story.
