POV how bad is this?
POV how bad is this?17 Years AgoI'm thinking about doing a chapter 1 of introductions where people are in an apartment building and the pov starts from one character and goes to the next on and on like a baton being passed on. Each pov will be close in, inner thoughts really, and then passed on to someone in a hall, the one in the hall then say passes it on to his neighbor that he hears screaming through the wall once he reaches his apartment. It'll all serve the story as they say. So how bad an Idea is that?

Great idea. How exciting. Just be careful to stay in the POV you are using. Best way to do a change in POV is a defined scene change. Make sure the reader understands that you have left the old and jumped into the new. Otherwise, wonderful idea. Julie |

[no subject]17 Years AgoI think it might be a fun piece to float in and out of apartment rooms and hallways, starting from the person putting a key into the lock and sliding up through the stairway to the guy sitting on the roof. I can visualize this exercise. I think the worry is going to be balance. If you have 5 characters you pass through you'll need to make sure each one is equally strong and interesting or it'll feel off.

[no subject]17 Years AgoThere are 5 or six characters I want to do this on. With it starting with the least important ones and twisting and turning to the more important ones till the end. sound's like a good Sunday project. I'm glad you guys didn't think the pov shifts are a bad of an idea. Now I just need to pull it off.

[no subject]17 Years AgoI think it could work as long as there is a clear distinction between PoV switches. Perhaps, passing of an object to symbolize the change?
