Society Of The Book-Lovers Forum Do you need plot?

Stephen King has said in his book "On Writing" that he tries to avoid plot and therefore does not use it in his stories and novels. He says that he just keeps writing in any direction. Do you really need plot?

I suppose it's up to the writer. Unless you want to story to follow a certan direction, or you want your writing to mean something then yes, you would need a plot. But other than that a plot is just a way to keep the story moving and to keep it on the same path the author wants it to stay on.
