Breeze: "If you want you can ride with Shujaa for a while." I offer, knowing that Im not entertaining. Shujaa: I laugh "I had to do something to occupy myself since I could not flirt with or court the girls."

Faeron- "No I'm fine. Besides he could do another trick, which might end with me getting hit or something." I say.----Elvira- I shake my head. "There was never one girl you tried to impress?" I ask.

Breeze: I nod "Wouldn't want my apprentice to get knocked on the head now, do we?" I ask with a smile "You can talk or whatever you do when traveling, Im just used to traveling alone." Shujaa: I nod "My sisters. They always said I couldn't do things, just so I'd do them, to show off. Anyone else, no. What was the point if I was never going to marry?" I shrug "It did not seem fair to get any of their hopes up."

Faeron- "Why? Why do you like to travel alone?" I ask.----Elvira- "Other than your sisters." I say. "Its just hard for me to believe that there is not one girl that has caught your eye."

Breeze: "Because, I try not to get close to people." Shujaa: I look down "I did, once." I take a breath "But it can't happen, now."

Elvira- Ah now we're getting somewhere. I think to myself. "Why not now?"----Faeron- "But don't you get bored? And sad if you were all by yourself?"

Shujaa: "She's dead." I say bluntly "There was a raid on our village and a child was in the path of the enemies' horses. She ran out and pushed the child out of the way. I tried to save her, but I was too far away. She was trampled by them, and all that the men did was to help with her funeral. The child was a girl, as well. If it had been a boy she'd saved, she would be a hero, but, since the child was a girl, she was just another death." I say bitterly "I hated how we discriminated against women, against people like her, rare and precious, who we just cast aside because they're female or young or different. That same day, I told my father I rejected my birthright, and I've been trying to get away ever since." I look down "He told me that she was worth nothing, that I could not have loved her anyways, that she was unworthy to be wedded to me, of all people. All because she was mute." I feel tears of anger and hurt threatening and blink them away. "Im scouting ahead." I urge Hodari into a gallop, getting away from the others, wanting to calm down. Breeze: "I had the wind, and all of my friends I had to watch die while I stayed here. It was easier being alone."

Faeron- "Well is it easier to be alone now? After meeting us?" I say with a smile.---Elvira- "Shujaa?!" I call out as he and Hodari go off. *Maybe I shouldn't have asked him all that Asil* I tell him as we keep moving. *Do not blame yourself. You had no idea about his past. It shows that he has great trust in you in order to tell you something so personal to him.* he sends back to me. I look him in the eye and nod. * I will leave him alone for a while though. Until he is ready to speak.* I say

Breeze: I smile slightly "Y'all won't let me be alone," I ruffle his hair "you are all determined to make me social." Shujaa: I stop riding as hard and wheel back once Im calm again, Id almost lost it like I did that day.

Faeron- "Well isn't it more fun this way?" I say laughing.---Elvira- I watch Breeze and Faeron with a smile on my face. Suddenly I hear Asil's voice in my head. *Do you hear that?* he asks. I focus on the woods around us. No bird sang, nothing moved. Except for a slight shuffle across the grass. I move Asil forward to where I'm right next to Breeze. "Breeze something's out there." I say.

Breeze: I glance over at her "I know, act like you just came up to tell me something funny. I know how to deal with it." I smile and give a little laugh, then look ahead again, talking to Faeron about nothing, making it look like we hadn't noticed anything.

Elvira- I laugh but still keep an eye on the forest around us. "Shujaa went ahead of us. Should we go get him?"---Faeron- i watch the forest as we talk.

Breeze: I laugh "He can't have gotten far!" I take a breath "Ashton! Come on, stop messing around or we'll be late!" I see Elvira cover a look of confusion and decide I'll explain later. Shujaa: I hear Breeze call me Ashton and know we've got company. We'd decided that if there was a problem, Id go by Ashton, something common in these regions. I speed up Hodari and yell back "Coming!" I burst into the clearing they're in and laugh "I wouldn't leave y'all behind if you were faster!" I tease, finally seeing the use of talking like one of them.

Elvira- I'm confused by what she means with Ashton but don't worry with asking. "Great. Now that we don't have to worry about Shujaa what are we going to do about whatever is watching us?" I ask.

Breeze: "It's bandits, they're less likely to bother us if it looks like we're just a bunch of kids having fun." I explain "Id rather not fight anyone right now, so just play along." Shujaa: I don't nod, but tap Elvira on the shoulder "You're it!" I shout, thinking of a game the other boys my age play in our village, to build up speed and evasion techniques. Hodari gets the idea and takes off with me laughing.

Elvira- I look at him running then to Breeze. That game was one that I hadn't played since I was a child. Not even Faeron plays it anymore.----Faeron- "Just go with it Elvira." I whisper to her. She looks at me and says fine. She taps me. "Then you and Breeze are it!" She says as she follows Shujaa and Hodari

Breeze: "Oh, it's on!" We quickly catch up with Elvira, but pass her, intent on catching Shujaa. I reach out and tap his arm "You're it!" Then race away before he can retaliate. Shujaa: I laugh and wheel around. Elvira's closest, so I decide to go after her. Hodari draws level with her and Asil, and I put a hand on her shoulder "You're it!" Hodari suddenly bucks, throwing me off, and I hadn't let go of Elvira yet. We both go tumbling to the ground, with me twisting jut in time so that she lands on me instead of me on her. I take a breath "You okay?" I ask, worried.

Elvira- I laugh. "Completely!" I say lifting myself up from off of him. I realized then that I had landed on him and looked down at his face, which wasn't too far from mine. "I landed on you though. So are you ok?" I ask smiling as I continue to get off of him

Shujaa: I smile "Yeah, Im fine, damsels in distress are my area of expertise, I do stunts like that all the time." I joke, sitting up, fing myself only a few inches away from her. I wince as my bruise acts up "Though, Im going to have a few more bruises from all these rocks."

Elvira- "I was no damsel in distress, nor will I ever be one. I can save my own skin." I say. "Besides you were the one who pulled me down with you."---Faeron- I look back and don't see Elvira or Shujaa. "Wonder what happened to them." I say aloud
