Novels & Short Stories Forum Planning your story
Planning your story8 Years AgoI'm fairly new and excited to have a forum dedicated to novels. How does everyone go about planning their books, and how much research do you do?

Re: Planning your story8 Years AgoI think the amount of research depends on your story type. I write fantasy so I do zero, unless I'm looking something up in latin or something.
I start off with a short general plot outline and then I make a profile for each character, after that I plot out the major events and their order, then the smaller events that lead to the major ones, then chapter by chapter. lol I used to not use an outline at all, but its easy to lose track of certain details that way. How do you do it? |

Re: Planning your story8 Years AgoThe story I'm working on currently is loosely based in fact so I've done a lot of research on location. I've roughly plotted the MCs, and am using a mind-mapping application to rack major themes, which works for me otherwise I have so much buzzing around in my head it's hard to keep track.

Re: Planning your story8 Years AgoThat's good, I think everyone needs their own system. :)
