Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoI noticed that too, I'm not writing a novel but it may be because it looks too long on one web page?

Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoOriginally posted by HappyAccident I've been noticing that everyone's stories are like a page for a chapter .Is anyone writing a full novel .You know like with at least 9 pages a chapter. Both my friend and I are writing novels (Ghost of Serenity and Black and White) and have submitted them on this site. I could easy write a 9 page chapter, but when that happens I cut it into 2 chapters. 1. So that I won’t swamp the reader with to much information and happenings. 2. The length discourages people --especially in our day and age when everything has to be quick and easy. Are you saying you would enjoy longer chapters or would you rather read shorter ones? (my chapter range form 5 to 6 pages each.) It would be helpful to know what people thought : ) |

Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoWell personally I wouldn't mind longer chapters from anyone .I don't feel that you can really express yourself with one page a chapter. |

Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoI've noticed that too, and I have a few that are about a page long... which I honestly hate, but my book Memories lost some of the chapters are 20 regular pages long...

Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoI have already written a whole novel, and my chapters are considerably longer than a page or two. However, I'm pretty new to the site and I'm still trying to figure out how to use everything on here. I'm not sure what the point system is for, for example. I'm going to try and post some of my book later today if I can figure out how.
Also, I'm more interested in reading longer chapters/stories as well. I'm thinking that there must be some kind of search engine here where you could look for something more specific perhaps. Sorry, I'm not a lot of help.

Re: Quick Question14 Years AgoIt's cool ,technically I'm new to Writer's Cafe and once I created my account I couldn't stop .The point system is for ranking the writers here so it's not that big of a deal if you don't care about that sort of thing.

I totally agree. I think the point system is just there to keep people on track with things they can do and also it helps people weed out whos serious about this and who isnt...you? but i still dont understand it lol. |

Re: Quick Question13 Years AgoThere is no set length for a chapter in a novel - having short chapters doesn't make it a short story instead of a novel. (Actually, short stories don't HAVE chapters.) I know what you mean, though, about wanting to see more story posted at a time. The trouble is, most people won't REVIEW longer chapters. Apparently even 2000 words (that would come to only 4 pages, single-spaced) is too much to read at a go... So people who have longer chapters don't get the reviews that poets and 100-word-chapter writers get.
I'm working on a novel, in addition to a few short stories. I've never been one for "write straight through, do not skip scenes, do not take time for other projects" - that's a good way to burn out, and then the novel never gets finished.

Re: Quick Question10 Years AgoIs it possible that they are only posting a scene from the chapter, so they aren't giving out all their material? That's what I have done. I took my least exciting scene and posted it for review to .. get an idea of what people think of it. To see how they feel I can spruce it up.
