Lonely and Depressed

I just moved to Helena, Montana a few days ago.  I hope it goes better than that miseerable excuse for a town called Rugby, North Dakota.  That is one lousy town.  All anyone does is gossip, gossip, gossip.  Nobody can keep their mouth shut.  They are always talking about who is sleeping with who, who's divorcing who, who pregnant with who's child, and the what not.

I'm glad to be out of that town.  Just don't let me ever move back there.  You couldn't pay me enough to move back to that town.

Valerie, hang in there ok?? Remember, I love it when people blog in here, so write, write, write! Im always ready to listen.

Lately it seems so many people have been depressed, and although it is not something I ever openly admit to just anyone, I have battled with it for years. So, if anyone ever needs someone to talk to....if you're feeling really depressed, please message me or post in here ok?

Even though sometimes things seem like they are hopeless and there is nowhere to go but down---just remember it is a fleeting feeling and will pass. One thing that has always helped me is to try and find humor in things that really aren't funny. Not in a bad way, just laughing at myself instead of focusing on all the negatives. And when Im really depressed and lonely, one cure I've found that works for me is to do something that is special just for you...that makes you feel happy or at peace. Alot of times for me its going to a pet store and petting all of the birds, cats, dogs, ferrets, anything I can possibly snuggle! Or, like the nerd I am, I go to the bookstore and find a few great books to look forward to reading.

Anyways, please write and let us know how its going ok?

I understand about the gossiping thing...I work with ladies that do nothing but trash each other and gossip all day. Its disgusting, so I usually keep to myself.

Small towns are like small people. They each lack the resources to look beyond their boundaries for something greater than themselves. Thus, just as small people think only of themselves, so small towns have nothing else to occupy their wealth of energy, education, and spirit. For both the small person and the small town it takes a leader (not a demagog) to draw their attention to the world outside.

Dear C. m. v.

Demagog (or demagogue) is a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power.

See: current administration in Washington for a wide range of bi-partisan examples

Dare I say it? -- A lot of religious leaders, too.

Anyway, I wish the best for Valerie.

Not enough S, but too much O

Surly and Old said it all. Having lived in or around small towns for the past nine years of my life (after growing up in a big town) I've learned that one must let it wash over ones self and ignore - though that's very hard to do.

But it's real fun shocking the nosy members of the town by doing brazen things such as hanging out a bunch of lacy thong underwear on the clothesline when you live on one of the main drags of town. Boy - does that cause an uproar :-) Or, write a book with a bit of sex in it - believe me...that one's even better than the thongs!
