You Tell Us: Prostition: A Great Service, or a Great Evil. You Tell Us17 Years AgoWhat is your views on the oldest profession? Should it be legal, should it be banned?
In view of the Englsih prostitute murders, it seems to show that they dont stop sex attacks as the victims were prostitutes killed by one of their regual punters. Without using religion, argue against or for! ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: My poem For Sale: A Soul and A Body Whole gives my viewpoint |

[no subject]17 Years AgoIt seems a bit odd that the oldest profession would be illegal. The legislation and banning of prostitution has no real impact upon its practices. People will want to have sex, and will have sex irregardless of what laws say. We have seen the inability of legal recourse to stem the wants and needs of a society. Prohibition only makes willing participants criminals. The fact that it is underground actually increases the problems associated with prostitution.
Let us look at the arguments against prostitution: 1. It can spread disease. 2. It could be considered immoral (morality and religiosity are completely disconnected). 3. Degradation of the prostitute (There are both male and females prostitutes). Now let us look at each of these issues and how legalization would impact them: 1. It can spread disease. Regulation would require health checks and actually stem the spread of disease. 2. It could be considered immoral (morality and religiosity are completely disconnected). It is not the law's job to regulate or enforce morality. What one person may fin morally acceptable, another may not. It is the individual's right to decide, no the law's. 3. Degradation of the prostitute (There are both male and females prostitutes). Regulation would remove the violence factor associated with pimps. So the job would be safer. With legal prostitution the "John" could be required to have positive identification, thus making it safer for the prostitute. As for degradation of the individual, That is a personal choice. There are many jobs out there that I personally could and would not do. There are many people out there that actually enjoy doing these same jobs. There have also been jobs that i did not care for but did out of necessity. We have pornography and there are willing participants in that industry, all that is happening is that the cameras and production staff are not in the room during the sex act. We have continually seen how prohibition of inevitable activity just bolsters the underground economy and overcrowds prisons with "victimless criminals". We need to drop the facade of "family values" and start looking at reality. Prostitution has, is, and will be around. It will not go away. |
