truth vs. values

Each day we make innumerable...decisions about things that dont really seem earth shattering. So what if we break a promise?
Lots of promises are broken, and people get over it and get on with it. So what if we find passion in another bed while we or they
are still married? Were entitled to derive pleasure and self-fulfillment. So what if we are too focused on work,TV, or clubs to spend
time with family?...So what if religion is not a big deal in our lives?...No one has a right to tell us what to do. Do we have the right to choose our own values?

A lot of us humble mortals go through stages. During some of these stages, we DO pick our own values.
A common stage, when we are young, is to kick the traces, say "Bugger to the rules", and go off and do our own thing. It can be a whole lot of fun. Plus, you get that added satisfaction of being a rebel and thumbing your noise at the establishment.
That wears thin after a while. Now maybe one starts to realise that one was in fact, not quite as revolutionary, not quite as original.... as at first thought.
Then, hopefully, having caused a decent amount of consternation and chaos, you sit down and ask questions:
Why am I here?
What am I doing?
Is there a friggin'...purpose?
And if there is.... what is it????

Some people are really quick to get to that point. I, unfortunately, am rather slow.
But some progress has been made. I think. Then again... maybe not.

Check out my two scribblings that I have respectfully offered to this august group...

and decide for yourself.

I think in a way we do define our own values and morals. For example I am considered immoral by some just because I don't go to church regularly. But in my opinion just because you go to church every Sunday doesn't automatically make you a good and moral person. I have found I have stronger morals and a stronger sense of right and wrong than some people who do actually go to church.

Also society dictates our values and morals. 20-30 years ago is was considered a big scandal to be a pregnant teenager. You start showing you were hidden away until the baby was born. I was in high school from 1996-2000. My sophomore year a girl in my grade was pregnant. It was no big deal. She was allowed to stay in school until she gave birth and when you saw her at school functions she'd bring her baby along with her. Don't get me wrong I"m not saying she's evil and should be burned at the stake because lets be honest if I was having sex at that age I could have easily been in her position. I was just illustrating how accepting our society has become of certain things.
