I LOVE Tolkien's use of "Half-Elves".  Aragorn was somewhere near 100 years old when he fought beside the Fellowship, and lived until 200 years of age.  I count only 2 pure elves and a half-elf before the long line of kings, so there's not a lot of elf blood in Aragorn, yet he lives... probably as long as some dwarves, and longer than majority of hobbits.

I am greatly interested in this theory of mixed blood, and like to use it in my own stories- throwing in a bit of Greek mythology by adding the blood of gods.  Great heroes arise from this rare and complicated combination of pride and strength with wisdom and immortality.
