Cyberpunk17 Years AgoIn the early 80's a sub-genre of scifi emerged called "Cyberpunk." Instead of being set in the far future in space-opera style plots, Cyberpunk stories were often set in the near future in electronic dystopias where the main characters were usually ostracized loners. Computer hacking was a big theme and it was this genre that actually concieved the concept of the Matrix and the "Internet" that we have today, and invented the term "cyberspace." A lot of anime is cyberpunk. Cowboy Bebop is totally cyberpunk. I'm reading a book right now called "Neuromancer" by William Gibson, it invented the genre. So just wondering if anyone else reads Cyberpunk Scifi and if so what's your fave?

[no subject]17 Years Agoim a good fan of cyber punk and i have to say that Gibson is the man. He has so far done the neuromancer trilogy that contains the books: nuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Smile (i think, my copy is on loan to a friend) He's also done another trilogy after the neuromancer one, that i havent read yet, but its on the list to buy. And his newest work was released recently.
I like the general idea of it and neuromancer is one of the most original books i've read in a long time, and its one of those books i pick up and read a lot... |

[no subject]16 Years AgoGibson wrote the Sprawl Trilogy, which contains Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Override. And the Bridge Trilogy containing Idoru, All Tommorrow's Parties, and one other book I can't remember off the top of my head. The Sprawl Trilogy was visionary while the bridge trilogy seems written with less emotion. Still great though.
