Collaboration Gang. Forum Vote: Main Character Gender

Tsubaki-senpai has dispatched me from the ether to get a vote started on the gender of our main character: Male or Female? 

Some things to consider:

- What may want the gender of the 'angelic' who has a romantic relationship with the main character to be opposite of the gender of this character. Same gender love is certainly a possible way we could go, but that could reduce our audience and may alter the theme/focus of the story. Again, this is up to the story we all want to tell. I'm fine with anything.

- This main character will begin to take on 'demonic' traits while doing battle with lots of other 'demonics'. Would you rather see a man or a woman in this role?

But thinking over it, I think I'm going to vote for female demonic aspect and male love interest. Not just because I'm better with the tortured female than the tortured male but because I detest seeing females in even the slightest passive role and I agree that the angelic female is way overdone. Just check out some Victorian novels or better yet pick up almost any Dickens novel, his female characters are just generally terrible, too good and perfect with absolutely no flaws to make them human or interesting. 

It might also make for some interesting dynamics. If our female lead is becoming more and more demonic, she might on some level get a sense of empowerment from maiming our love interest, a part of her (the worst, most demonic part) getting a kind of sadistic pleasure from overpowering a man so completely. I'm a fan of the fucked up relationship dynamics, not because I'm personally into that s**t (I'm not) but because I think it makes for psychologically complex characters and probing thematic questions. 

Sorry, that got really long. I'm just that excited. 

P.S. I'm open to a same sex romance as well. It sounds like it'd be fun to write. I'm assuming that we're going to have more characters than just our two leads so we could create side characters who are in a same sex relationship. 

P.P.S. I still love Dickens, just not his female leads. 

Female Hero / Male Angelic Love ==> 6

Male Hero / Female Angelic Love ==> 3

Male Hero / Male Angelic Love ==> 1

Female Hero / Female Angelic Love ==> 0

The hero who hunts demonics will be female and her love interest who is the angelic will be a male. I think it's a totally cool idea to have possibly another female interested in the hero, sort of a forbidden love, though how far we go there depends on what story you all want to write. Alternatively, another male character could be interested in the angelic male character, and perhaps he's a "better fit" than the demonic woman, who is gradually getting darker and doubting herself and even whether she can be saved - all that is left is her mission to kill all demonics.
