Who Want Workshops? I do! I do!

17 Years Ago

As I've been e-mailing with a couple of others using the site, and as we have a small group, should we entertain the idea of workshops? We're all doing this to some extent already, reading other writers and commenting. A workshop would be a little more of a commitment. It would mean each person participating would contribute a poem they would like to workshop, and commenting on the other contributions of the others participating. It would go beyond encouraging each other to giving a response to each other, even if it means saying, "I don't understand this." If we would like to go beyond self-expression, then it helps to know how other people read our words. Depending on how many participate, we would have something of a schedule. Now I know that may prompt a few to say this is right out! But if you have 10 people, one person in the group puts in a poem, and that would give everyone else in the group a few days to read it and give feedback. Plus it may give a little time to dialogue, in case more needs to be said. Each person putting in a poem could expect to get comments from 9 people. Believe me, the comments of the others in the group will say something of them as well as the poems themselves. After all, as T.S. Eliot points out, criticism is creative work as well as the poetry critiqued. (Hah! So there Shane. Eliot did have a good idea.)

I like that idea, perhaps it could be implemented on the featured work? I love to ramble over peoples work, I think I actually enjoy rambling over peoples work with what I see in it as opposed to what they actually mean just a little more than writing even.
Yes I do like that idea, I doubt I can help improve anyones skill's I mean you have to possess skill to do that, I cant say I do.
But I might offer new ideas or twists.
And I love to work off other persons word lists, we should build work lists every now and then that need to be incorporated into something at least half meaningful. At times other peoples work shows me a new picture, far removed from their own, and my own, I like that as well.
I agree, much of a person rubs off in their interpretations of other peoples work in an artful manner sometimes, so true.
Its a nice idea ::smile::

OK how's this?

We hold the contest as beforementioned for the featured spot. We'll say final 10 get voted on by the members...that'll mean i'll have the decision on the final 10, but with 16 members...that may be all that enter anyway. SO..to defeat that problem we'll just say the first 10 entries are the final 10...there ya go on that matter ::smile::

The winner of the featured contest is the "scrutiny" piece that we all "workshop" on...

what's that sound like??? good??? bad??? ugly??? ::biggrin::

That sound fine. If we comment on each of the 10 poems, as we vote, then we will have workshopped each piece. That would give each writer something to work with in revising.

Hey guys just thought I'd send this and post in the forum.

I just figured out that we can select what literature we want added and anyone can do it I think. From the group page select add literature. This can be a way for each member to submit something for critique. We can just post in the group what literature we choose. I have the option to submit from any member. Does everyone have that option??

We can still do the feature contests to though, just need more participation. The other way...I can also submit my own work to be gandered at and thought through LoL

So we post whatever we would like feedback on, or just the contest entries?

I'd say we still do the contests for the featured spot, but everyone can also submit works for critique
