Welcome Vets and forum junkies

I'll start off the forum, as I've been crazy enough to volunteer to set this thing up in the first place.

I hope the review opportunities will be equal in popularity with the chat opportunities in the forum.  I'll probably post the first writing from my own stash too.  As far as reviewing goes, I promise to review anyone who reviews me, though I won't limit my contributions to tit for tat.

I'm moderator in name only.  Any group member can post work at any time, but in the interest of equal opportunity and a tidy home page I suggest no more than one item per member at any given time.  If you've got several book chapters a nifty way around this is to create a book, and just post that, letting members cruise the chapters for stuff to review.  If you like, you can set up a thread here for any of your posted work you'd like to discuss with fellow members.  If you want to switch one submission for another you'll have to message me to remove the old thing.  That's the only actual power I have as a moderator, that you don't.  I won't remove anything unless requested to do so.

In the forum ordinary rules of decorum apply.  I don't believe in censorship, and I hope no one else who participates does either.  But name-calling and such is right out, I hope you agree.

Let's have us some fun!

Hello Leah! Thanks for this group. This place is great. I’m going to hopefully post some writing here over the next week, but will have to decide what to post first. Got so much, lol.

Thank you very much for this place. :)

I hope some more people from the amazon.com boards come here to indulge the communicative needs of international contestants that can't post on the official boards.

I know what you mean. It is so frustrating reading the comments and being unable to join in. Mind you every body seems to be offline whenever I'm on.

Are our posts viewable only by this group? (As you now know, I'm not very techie.)

Not sure I want my stuff visible to all and sundry.

Somehow, I trust my ABNA pals.

If I may ask, Shai, why?

The forums can be read by anyone in the Cafe, but not responded to except by group members.  Anything you post to the group is available for review by the entire Cafe membership, but in my experience it's very hard to get reviews unless you solicit them.  Even within a group, actually.

If you want to pursue more private conversations you can message anyone.

If you want to establish a private review relationship with someone, I suggest trading files by regular email and reviewing using the delightful Word review tool. (That's how I got the goods that enabled me to revise my entry this summer.)

I sort of supposed that anyone who wants to be a published author wants their work to be read, eventually by all and sundry.  How can we find out if our writing has a wide enough appeal to be salable unless we expose it to the public?

Not that you'll necessarily be read widely here. Like I said, usually you have to solicit readers, by sending notifications to friends when you post.

Hi, Shai!! Glad you made it.  ;-)  (in case you're confused, I'm in the ABNA under my real name, Sharon Gerlach).

I have been here at the Cafe for over a year, and have had nothing stolen. Most people here are very respectful. You may get a clinker of a review every now and then (usually by a newbie who thinks [s]he is the literary equivalent of Siskell & Ebert) but those are actually fairly rare. And I've never heard of an actual case of plagiarism.

All in all, I think it's safe to show your lovely treasures.  ;-)
