What to do about our destruction of God's creation?6 Years AgoHi,
I'm new to writer's cafe & found this group. Decades ago after becoming a lay Carmelite (OCDS in the Catholic Church), I became more aware of my flaws and then of my part in environmental destruction. I've done many things to mitigate this at the personal, household, and group levels, helped develop an Environmental Studies program at the university where I worked. But is was never enough, so I turned to writing, which my husband assures me is not enough either. It's weird because the 1st novel I wrote, which started out as a short story in high school back in the mid-60s, was about an autocratic world totally encased because the environment had been destroyed, though I never explained how or why. I've long since thrown that away, and in hind-sight it wasn't that bad. My latest screenplay, THE VENUS SYNDROME, is about something similar, which I didn't realize until now. LOGLINE: A Special Ops soldier from the future in which the Earth is on the brink of the Venus syndrome -- life-annihilating global warming -- travels back in time to assassinate the American president whose policies started the unstoppable devastation. The twist was to do something opposite the usual Bronson-type "justified" bloody revenge flicks -- which my nephew unfortunately loves. In my story the professor-turned soldier from the future falls in love with a woman in our time -- an environmental attorney and activist, an ardent pacifist, who awakens in him principles and feelings he had thought long dead... If anyone is interested in reading it, I can send it your way. Lynn |
