Gas Light On.
Eli Garbo was going to die.  His timer told him he only had five minutes of oxygen left.  The Vastness of space spread out in front of him like a panorama.  The nose of his Alpha Class Space Cruiser pointed into the darkness like an accusatory finger at all the things wrong in the universe.  Humanity had spread like a plague across the vast reaches of emptiness, and in conquering the void had developed an idle carelessness for the cold hard frontier of deep space . His unit--Explorer team 34--had been tasked with the cataloging and mapping of an asteroid belt that had been formed by the gravitational pull of the planet Porlean II.  The planet was dense enough for terraforming, but the belt was deterring the flow of space traffic.  Construction crews were slated to began the removal process next month.  But Eli only had four minutes left, so none of that concerned him.   Eli wanted to blame the Explorer project, he wanted to blame the entire universe for his untimely end, but he couldn’t.  He could only blame himself.  After all he was the one who hadn’t noticed the gas light was on.
