About Me

Whitney Vaughan has been writing poems since she was six years-old, when she made a book of poetry for her great-grandparents' wedding anniversary. She has gone on to publish nonfiction in the Village Voice, Curve Magazine, Meridian Magazine, Spectator, Independent Weekly, and Dance Insider. She has published her poetry in the Asheville Poetry Review and Less Hot Air on Dance (NYC). In 2000, she won a Scholarship to Bread Loaf Writers Conference , and in 2001, she received an Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council.

She will be attending the Sewanee Writers Conference in Sewanee, TN this summer (2007), where she hopes to work with either (distinguished poets) Alan Shapiro or Mark Strand.

Whitney lives in Durham, NC presently with her two cats, Aphex and Gerty.
