About Me
Dan Holden was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1958, the son of a former Brooklyn Dodger minor leaguer, and the grandson of a former Canadian NHL defenseman. He majored in Journalism at Oregon State University where he wrote for several college publications. He served three years as the Director of the Kells Portland (Oregon) St. Patricks Day parade, as well as two years as the President of an Irish-Catholic philanthropic organization.
Holden researches and writes articles on a variety of subjects. His favorite topics revolve around Irish history. His articles appeared monthly in the Irish American newspaper in Philadelphia, PA under the byline, Holdens Historical Review.
His articles have also been featured in The Celtic Chronicles (Northwest), The Irish Times Magazine (San Francisco), and the October 2003 issue of Military History magazine, as well as numerous on-line Celtic publications.
But more than a one-trick pony, Holden has written a number of sports-related pieces, as well as a recent article on the satellite radio craze, which have been published by The Oregonian, The Seattle Times, and the Winnipeg Tribune.
Holden has been in the insurance risk management field for over two decades. He is married and has two daughters. He has just completed a book on the origin of professional hockey in the United States and Canada from 1900-1915.
