About Me

"Writing releases what the soul cries out for us to hear"

Dahveed, born January 15, 1963 in Greensboro, North Carolina has been writing since the age of 16. He currently resides in Southern California. Through his experiences as a foster child, “a child of the system”, from the age of two to seventeen years; Dahveed recognizes and understands the many challenges that a foster child endures.

Through The Eyes of a A Foster Child: a Poetic Journey is the first of several books to be released by Dahveed. As a result of his own experiences and witnessing those of others, Dahveed's poetry and essays focus on controversial topics that most would ignore. He explains his writing philosophy as "writing releases what the soul cries out for us to hear."

While writing his first book, "Through The Eyes of A Foster Child: A Poetic Journey" it dawned upon him that he should create a brand that defines who he is as a person, as a writer. Being that he used "Dahveed" as his pseudo name, he incorporated it with what he is known for; his voice and his vision. He coined the title "Dahveed's Voice and Vision" which not only defines who he is; but what he represents to those that read his writings.

His mission while writing his book was to bring awareness, a new voice, and a new vision as it pertained to foster children. Dahveed believes that the lack of focus on foster children stems from the lack of information provided.
Since the publication of his first book, he has posted articles on several websites and blogs for others to read. He writes mostly for the joy of it and also because he has a voice that needs to be heard.

As a photographer, Dahveed prefers to use black and white film instead of digital or color. He states that "If you use digital, you can manipulate your photos or take a picture over once you see what it looks like. With film, you get one chance to capture that special moment. In other words, what you see is what you get; a true shot, no matter how it looks." For his book "Before I Was Born: I Saw The World Through Eyes," Dahveed used black and white film to captured those moments which one can never get back.

Dahveed is currently writing his next book for a Summer 2011 release.

thanks so much for your review... Idk when my books are coming out, I haven't even finished the one you read... I kind of been trapped since school started, and I haven't even been on here for several months. I figured everyone forgot about me and my writing along time ago. I do need to get back to writing, I have a few pieces I should add I suppose... I guess I'll keep you in touch if I ever get off the ground with my writing!

In your contest "Our Future, Our Children", you want us to write both a poem and a short story. While that is all well and good, we can't submit more than one work. So how are we supposed to submit both a poem and a short story? oO

Thanks,

Jake
