Freewriting is a technique used before writing a story or poem to unleash your thoughts.  This is where you do not have to worry about grammatical errors or if it makes sense.  The above image was taken from this website: 

Directions



Step 1: Start with a blank screen or piece of paper.

Step 2: Write down the first word that comes to your mind.

EXAMPLE

Magpie

Step 3: Set your stopwatch or timer for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Write down phrases and words that associate with the word you selected in Step 2.

valley

purple weeds

Step 5: Select at least 5 words that stuck with you the most.

EXAMPLE: 

1.  Buttercups
2.  Calico cat
3.  Magpie
4.  Pumpkins
5.  Meadow

Step 6: Write a 5-10 sentence story about the 5 words you selected.
