How smoldering goes to spontaneous ignition

"

Smouldering or glowing combustion

involves direct oxidation of the polymer and/or chars and other non-volatile decomposition products. Smouldering spreads slowly but can change into flaming combustion.

Glowing or flaming ignition.

Spontaneous ignition or self-heating occurs when the heat generated by slow oxidation in a fuel exposed to air exceeds the heat losses to the surroundings. This leads to an increase in temperature, which in turn accelerates the chemical reaction and eventually leads to thermal runaway.

A luminous flame is a burning flame which is brightly visible.
