About Me

Tim Dybus - artist's statement: "With a certain degree of uncertainty, astronomers estimate the age of the universe to be 13.7 billion years old, while our solar system is thought to have existed for about 4.5 billion years, and it is generally agreed that humans, as a genus, have roamed the earth for a mere million or two years. Some astrophysicists postulate that the universe is in fact finite - it has a beginning and an end. If the universe is finite this implies that the amount of energy, and therefore matter, is also finite. This leads some to believe that the matter which composed the Big Bang Singularity is the same matter which exists today.

"Timothy is composed of matter – his mass consists of protons, neutrons, electrons, neutrinos, and a complex string structure. This collection of sub-atomic particles majored in Anthropology at Montclair State University, but like all good quantum equations, functioned in a state of duality, studying the immeasurable wave of fine art with a concentration in ceramics and sculpture. If the finite energy argument is correct, then some or all of Timothy’s matter may have also been; a nomad in eleventh century Central Asia, a porter on the Lusitania, a blacksmith in medieval England, or an arrangement of lichen occupying any rock at any time in space. Or, if one is inclined towards the parallel universe theory he may currently thrive as an insurance adjuster, happily or unhappily doing whatever insurance adjusters do to pass the time. However, it IS known that in this universe, Timothy is a notorious improvisationalist, a supporter of the intrepid individualist, an adherent to Objectivism, an opponent of those who refuse to return their shopping carts to the corral, and a chronic offender of New Jersey’s seat belt laws but otherwise avoids trouble and works in a variety of mediums including but not limited to clay, wood, concrete, cardboard, found objects, paints of any sort, and photography.

"He is inspired and driven by the gigantic, the stretched horizon and endless skies, the infinite patterns of nature and the unknowable, the vanished peoples of Easter Island and the monolithic beauty eroding on its shores, the unapproachable dynamic aesthetic - those nebulous enigmas which man cannot quantify or explain with certainty."
