Vol,
Unfortunately, there are a good number of legitimate writing genre missing on the "Type of Writing" list.
Why, who knows? And, asking the site owners is a waste of effort … they never respond.
But, I agree, Essay should be on it, along with Treatise, etc; etc; etc.
